Boundless Life · Kamakura

Why this exists

You moved your family across the world. You still need a Tuesday off.

Boundless gives your kids a classroom in Kamakura. We cover the hours around it.

Most childcare here assumes you speak Japanese, live here permanently, and can book six weeks out. None of that describes a family three weeks into a season abroad. So we built the other thing: a small local team who knows the Enoden line, the good playgrounds, which temple paths work with a stroller, and how to get a tired six-year-old home from Hase station.

You're matched with one nanny for your whole stay. Same person, every session. Your kids learn her name in the first week.

What Boundless families actually book

Five hours to yourselves changes the whole month.

You are here for a season, not a weekend. These are the gaps a nanny fills — the ones that are hard to plan around when you don't know anyone in town yet.

The dinner you keep postponing

Kamakura closes early and the kids are on the wrong clock. Book an evening, hand over the bedtime routine, and go eat a meal that isn't cut into small pieces — or finally take that walk on the beach at Shichirigahama you've been meaning to take since you landed.

A day in Tokyo, at adult pace

An hour on the train each way is a lot for a four-year-old. Leave them with someone who knows the local parks and playgrounds.

The jet-lag week

Arrival week is its own kind of hard. An afternoon of quiet play at your place lets everyone reset — including you.

More than one child, different ages

A toddler and a nine-year-old want opposite days. We can place a second nanny so nobody has to compromise.

Your Boundless rate

Three ways to book.

Every session is five hours. Pay once, then book as you go — the more hours you take, the lower your rate.

All prices include tax. Five-hour minimum per session, booked as one block. USD figures are indicative and settle in yen. Care running past 23:30 means your nanny takes a taxi home — that fare is covered by your family and typically runs ¥5,000–¥20,000 depending on distance. Cancellation: full refund 14 or more days before care starts, 50% at 7–13 days, no refund inside 7 days.

How it works

Four steps, and you meet the nanny before any money moves.

Tell us the shape of your stay

Fill in the form below — dates, ages, and the package you're leaning towards. Not sure of exact times yet? Say so.

Meet your nanny

We match you and set up a free video call. You approve before anything is booked, and the kids usually say hello too.

Confirm and pay online

Once you're happy, you sign a simple service agreement and pay online. That's when your hours are locked in.

Message us to book

Give us the date and the hours; we handle the rest. Your nanny comes to you in Kamakura.

Why families trust us with this

You are handing over your children. We don't take that lightly.

Every nanny is interviewed by a real person

Not a directory, not an algorithm. Every nanny is interviewed online by our team, reference-checked and background-checked before she is placed with a family — and our country manager is based in Japan year-round.

You meet her first, free

A free video meet-and-greet with the nanny we've matched to your family, before you pay anything. The kids usually join — it makes the first day far easier. If the fit isn't right, say so and we'll find you someone else.

A person on WhatsApp, not a ticket queue

Our coordinators answer in your time zone while you're travelling. Updates and photos during care are normal, not a special request.

“Having that support allowed us as parents to fully immerse ourselves in the experience, explore with ease, and truly enjoy the trip with complete peace of mind. The kids had their own adventures and got much needed downtime while adjusting to the time change.”

“We initially booked for just a few kid free evenings, but ended up doing more daytime hours in both cities as well… Traveling with two toddlers can be stressful, but having Shiho and Aimi really made our first international family trip a memorable one.”

“She cared for our six month old baby girl two nights and we could tell our baby was well cared for. She sent us plenty of pictures and updates. We also loved that we were able to zoom with her before the trip so we could put a face to the name.”

Questions Boundless families ask

Straight answers.

Why a five-hour minimum?

Long enough to be worth the trip for your nanny — Kamakura is a journey out from the Tokyo area for most of our team — and honestly, long enough to be worth it for you. Five hours is dinner and a walk on the beach, or a full day in Tokyo without watching the clock. It's also what lets us hold your rate at ¥7,500 an hour instead of the ¥9,375 everyone else pays.

What does a booking actually cost?

A single five-hour session is ¥37,500 ($235) at your partner rate. Packages bring that down: The Landing is $40 an hour, The Weekly Reset $35, and The Season Pass $30 — a third off the single-session rate. There's no booking fee on top, and if you need someone within 48 hours the last-minute rate is ¥8,800 an hour rather than ¥11,000.

How does the free hour work?

One hour free on your first booking with us, whether that's a package or a single session — so a first five-hour evening is charged as four. It applies once per family.

Can I split a session across two days?

No — each session runs as one five-hour block. It's what lets us keep the same nanny with your family instead of shuffling schedules around.

What if we don't use all our hours?

They roll over once within your Boundless stay. If you're leaving with hours left, tell us and we'll help you use them.

What if we're out later than planned?

Not a problem — tell your nanny and the extra hours are added at your normal rate. One thing to know: if care runs past 23:30 the trains have stopped, so your nanny takes a taxi home and that fare sits with your family. Depending on how far she's travelling it's usually somewhere between ¥5,000 and ¥20,000.

Can we cancel?

Cancel 14 or more days before care starts and you're refunded in full. Between 7 and 13 days, half. Inside 7 days we can't refund — by then your nanny has turned down other work to hold the day for you.

Do we get to meet the nanny first?

Always, and it's free. We set up a video call between your family and the nanny we've matched you with before you pay anything. Kids usually join — it makes the first day much easier. If the fit isn't right, say so and we'll find someone else. You can also swap your nanny later in your stay, no questions asked.

What ages do you work with?

Six months through twelve years. Tell us your ages when you book and we'll match accordingly.

Will she speak English?

Yes. If you'd like another language as well, put it in the form — along with any language spoken at home. It genuinely helps us match.

How are your nannies vetted?

Every nanny is interviewed online by our team, reference-checked and background-checked before she's placed with a family. Our country manager is based in Japan year-round. We're not a directory you search through — we match your family to a specific nanny and stand behind that match.

Is this only for Boundless families?

Yes. These rates are for the Kamakura community and aren't available publicly.

Can she take the kids out, or is it only at our place?

Either. Say which you'd prefer on the form. For outings we'll agree the plan, the area and any transport costs with you in advance — nothing gets decided on the day without you.

Can we book more hours later?

Yes — add another package at any time during your stay.

What happens to the details we send you?

Your request goes straight into our internal booking system and is seen only by the coordinators handling your placement. We don't sell or share your family's details, and your contact information is never shown to nannies who aren't matched with you.
